Excelsior Medical BuildingAbout Us

Excelsior Medical is a privately held medical device company that offers a number of products that fulfill the needs of the healthcare practitioner. These products include: saline and heparin flush syringes, dispensing pumps, syringe pumps and SwabCap®.

Excelsior Medical was founded in 1989. In 1990, we introduced the PharmAssist dispensing pump to reconstitute powdered drugs into liquid form. In 1995, we developed and introduced the ESP syringe pump to complement our PharmAssist dispensing system. In 1997, we introduced Syrex prefilled catheter flush syringes and have grown over the years to become one of the largest manufacturers of prefilled flush syringes in the U.S. In 2007, we introduced our new ZR family of syringes that were designed specifically to minimize syringe related reflux and begin our focus on developing products for intra-luminal catheter care. We are also one of the very few manufacturers that 100% terminally sterilizes all its prefilled syringe products.

All of our Prefilled Catheter Flush Syringes are manufactured and terminally sterilized in the U.S. in Neptune, New Jersey.

Leaders in Catheter Care Innovation
In 2009, Excelsior Medical launched SwabCap®, a needleless connector cap that contains 70% IPA as a disinfectant. SwabCap effectively disinfects and protects needleless connectors between accesses, helping clinicians provide better patient care and comply with valve disinfection protocols. Excelsior has the unique ability to combine its ZR® saline flush syringes and SwabCap® into one convenient product, SwabKIT™, increasing technique standardization and compliance.

Excelsior Medical - ManufacturingManufacturing

Excelsior Medical has self-manufactured ZR® prefilled flush syringes since 1996. Our manufacturing capacity has increased over the years to our current capacity of over 350 million prefilled saline and heparin syringes per year. Our new facility has the necessary space to allow us to expand even further as demand for our pre-filled flush syringes increases.

Our facilities are FDA-registered and ISO 13485(EN 46001) certified. We maintain our own R&D, microbiology and quality laboratories in order to maintain direct control over our processes and to respond quickly to our client’s need for new products.

The Difference Terminal Sterilization Makes.
Companies using aseptic fill technologies are required to invest huge amounts for every incremental increase in production. Equipment takes months or years to manufacture and even more to debug and validate.

Excelsior Medical’s terminal sterilization process allows us to respond quicker to changes in the market through more nimble manufacturing techniques. Our processes are not directly dependent on bulky aseptic fill machines and our production lines can be adapted quickly to new syringe sizes and solutions. Excelsior has responded to increases in demand from the US and international markets by completing its manufacturing facility expansion in late 2005. “We will continue to invest in equipment, facilites and personnel to satisfy the market needs of existing and new products,” stated Bill Rice, President and CEO of Excelsior Medical. “The expansion has more than doubled our production capability, giving us the ability to easily meet the future needs of our clients without sacrificing quality, performance or innovation.”

It is Excelsior’s mission to provide caregivers with the safest, most convenient catheter flush syringes available.
