EXCELSIOR MEDICAL FILLS THE GAP IN PREFILLED HEPARIN LOCK CATHETER FLUSH SYRINGES
Neptune, NJ, 21 Nov, 2007: Excelsior Medical Corporation announces the introduction of their new ZR™ 1 unit/mL and 2 unit/mL prefilled heparin lock catheter syringes. Nearly every patient who is hospitalized has a catheter in place for the administration of IV fluids or medications. It is a well-established practice to flush catheters regularly in order to keep them open, or free flowing. The flush solution utilized is typically normal saline (0.9% NaCl) or a diluted heparin solution of 10 or 100 Units per milliliter. Until now, the lowest concentration of heparin flush available in a prefilled syringe that is also terminally sterilized was 10 Units per mL.
According to Tony Saia, Director of Global Marketing, “healthcare professionals have been asking for a prefilled catheter flush syringe with a lower concentration of heparin for those patients whose catheter would occlude using only saline, but don’t need the higher concentration of heparin. Excelsior’s new ZR 1 Unit/mL and 2 Units/mL prefilled heparin catheter lock syringes fills this gap.” In addition to a heparin line extension, Excelsior is also introducing their ZR syringe platform.
